Drogheda Tidy Towns was set up by local volunteers in 2007 to make Drogheda a better place to live, work, and visit. From the very beginning, our aim has been to create a cleaner, greener, and more welcoming town, encouraging pride in our community and working together to protect and enhance Drogheda for everyone.

Drogheda Tidy Towns remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the Boyne River in any way possible, such as the Annual Boyne Clean-Up, undertook a biodiversity study of the Boyne Estuary, from which we produced a book and erected interpretative signage.

Congratulations to Paula Boyle from Moneymore - our latest Drogheda Tidy Towns Community Award winner.Every few months, Drogheda Tidy Towns recognises a local resident or group who goes above and beyond to keep their area clean, welcoming and full of community spirit. This quarter, Paula stood out for the huge difference she has made in Moneymore.What began as a small clean up for her has grew into a full community effort. Paula has encouraged neighbours, involved the kids, and worked with Connect FRC to brighten neglected spaces and build pride across the estate. The result has been a visible transformation of so many areas in the estate and a much renewed sense of pride of place.Paula has helped organise a major clean up day, supported new mural projects, and even raised over €3,000 for bereavement supports, all while bringing people together to improve their estate and strengthen community bonds.Paula embodies the spirit of these awards: practical action, kindness, and a determination to make her community better. 🌍💚 What a wonderful way to recognise World Cleanup Day in Drogheda! 💚🌍We in Drogheda Tidy Towns were delighted to support the great work of Ann McVeigh and the Festival of Ideas team today as part of World Cleanup Day 2026.A huge thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who came out in advance of today’s “Climb to the top of St Laurence’s Gate” event and worked hard cleaning up Laurence Street and the surrounding areas. 👏🧤A special mention must go to the super job the team did removing litter and weeds from Keyser’s Lane / Highlanes Steps. It really looks great now! 🌿✨ It would be fantastic if we could keep it looking this way. In fact, to do so would not need a huge amount of work. Perhaps some might like to adopt the lane and give it the care it needs. We at Drogheda Tidy Towns will help , just message or email if you interested. Following the cleanup, we had the wonderful experience to Climb to the top of St Laurence’s Gate as part of Festival of Ideas. 🏰 The views over Drogheda were simply spectacular. Looking out across the town really gives you a sense of the scale of Drogheda and its remarkable panoramic setting. Tidy Towns Drogheda
What an enjoyable time we had last night as we came together to celebrate and, most importantly, to thank Alistair McAlister for 19 years of incredible commitment to Drogheda Tidy Towns. ❤️Alistair shared with us at our recent meeting that, after 19 years, he has decided to step down from the Drogheda Tidy Towns Committee. Having been involved from the very beginning when the organisation started in 2007, Alistair has given an enormous amount of his time, energy and enthusiasm to the work of making Drogheda a cleaner, greener and better place.Over those years, he has played a hugely important role in the work that has seen Drogheda achieve Gold Medal awards since 2008, something that we can all be very proud of.We also want to thank Alistair for the archive of photographs he has provided us over the years. 📸 It includes many projects, people, activities and memories, and a wonderful record of the journey of Drogheda Tidy Towns over these years .But perhaps above all else, we want to thank him for the person he has always been , a true gentleman.
