This is the first installment of Drogheda Tidy Towns Out And About, in which we meet and greet locals throughout the Drogheda community. We want to be able to highlight all of the fantastic work that local businesses and residents are doing to help elevate Drogheda and make it a better place for us all to live and work.
To mention a few, we’ll be speaking with local residents, businesses owners, house owners, sports clubs, gyms, community groups, resident associations, and schools.
We stopped by Barlow’s Railway Tavern for our inaugural Drogheda Tidy Towns Out And About and chatted with Barlow himself (Railway Tavern proprietor). It was excellent timing because Barlow was out sweeping the footpath in front of the pub and surrounding area. We noticed some landscaping work that was carried out in front of the pub over the last 2 weeks and it is looking fantastic. We asked Barlow to tell us all about it and how the came to happen.
Barlow told us that they wanted to improve the look and feel of the area around the bar, so he took it upon himself to begin improving the area, which has encouraged and inspired other local businesses and individuals to do the same and start making plans.
“Barlow’s Railway Tavern is located on Dublin Road, just a few hundred meters from Drogheda MacBride Train Station, where tourists arrive and depart on a daily basis. Tourists’ perceptions of our magnificent town are heavily influenced by first and last impressions.”
To achieve the above and to assure the greatest outcomes and a high finish, Barlow noted that some ground preparation was done to enhance the longevity of the newly laid turf grass. They added some beautiful hedges after it was laid, which will develop and mature over time. They also put up a small border fence in front of the freshly laid turf grass to keep people off the grass so it could settle and root.
Barlow’s work has significantly improved the area’s aesthetic and deserves a big thumbs up. Check it out for yourself!
