We know the Boyne River is an invaluable natural asset, serving as a lifeline for our local ecosystem. Sadly, in recent years, its once pristine waters have become marred by litter and pollution, threatening the delicate balance of life within its depths. This degradation not only harms the river itself but also poses risks to the flora and fauna that rely on its waters for sustenance.
Drogheda Tidy Towns remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the Boyne River in any way possible, such as the Annual Boyne Clean-Up, Baltray Estuary Clean-Up, and promoting the beauty of the Boyne within our community.
In 2023 Drogheda Tidy Towns attended an event workshop “Boyne Vision – a consultation on the future of the River Boyne”,
The Boyne Vision conducted by Development Perspectives (DP) and the Centre for Freshwater and Environmental Studies (CFES) in Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) on behalf of the Boyne Rivers Trust (BRT).
This event/workshop was an eye opener for Drogheda Tidy Towns and moving forward, Drogheda Tidy Towns will continue to collaborate with local stakeholders, residents, and businesses to promote the Boyne, identify solutions for tackling pollution and safeguarding the Boyne’s precious resources.
Through ongoing education, advocacy, and hands-on initiatives, we aim to instill a sense of pride and responsibility in our community, empowering all to take an active role in protecting the invaluable gift that is the River Boyne. Together, we can ensure that future generations inherit a thriving, resilient waterway teeming with life and possibility.
